Downton Abbey star confirms 2021 filming date for sequel as cast read script

Downton Abbey actor Jim Carter has confirmed that the cast have already seen the script for the upcoming sequel movie.

Speaking on This Morning yesterday, the 72 year old actor known for playing resident butler Charles Carson confirmed the exciting news while chatting with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Speaking from his home, the star revealed that filming could begin as soon as next year if everything goes to plan.

It comes just one year after the first Downton Abbey movie was released, much to the excitement of a loyal fanbase.

Speaking to the presenters, Jim divulged that the actors have already cast their eyes on a new script but didn’t reveal quite how far that had been developed.

He said: “If you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll let you know that we’ve seen a script… The script for a second film is there. We’ve seen it, it’s very funny!”

“It’s got all the same characters in, all the regular characters, and I think the will is – COVID willing – we’ll film it next year.”

This Morning’s presenter Phillip Schofield then tried to push for more details but Jim declined to give anything more away.

“‘I’m not going to give anything away about plot lines!” the actor joked during his appearance on the show.

Jim joined the presenters for a discussion ahead of Downton Abbey’s 10th anniversary tomorrow.

The actor also reminisced about his first appearance and admitted to the presenters that he even re-read some of his opening lines recently.

Jim added: “I had a little wave of nostalgia and my first scene it says: “Carson the Butler sits in his magnificence”… and my first line was “Ah, William, any papers yet?”… as the newspapers were being delivered!”

TV bosses were quick to consider a sequel film after the first movie production made huge gains at the box office.

According to The Sun, the film saw a stunning £110million in revenue after just 26 days running.

It comes five years after the original ITV series came to an end in 2015.
