Elton John’s lawyer has responded to his ex-wife Renate Blauel’s claims that she “attempted suicide,” and said she’s “just after his money”.
The 73-year-old Rocket Man singer has hit back at his former wife, 67, after she claimed she attempted to take her own life after he told her their marriage wasn’t working out during their honeymoon.
Elton’s lawyer has claimed that Renate “wants his money” and is trying to “tarnish his name publicly”.
Renate, who was married to Elton between 1984 and 1988, claimed she attempted suicide after Elton told her their relationship wasn’t working three days into their honeymoon in St Tropez in official court documents.

She said that she was rushed to hospital to have her stomach pumped, claiming that Sir Elton did not even visit her during her stay.
The German recording engineer added that Elton then had her driven straight to the airport from the hospital door.
Blauel’s accusations emerged on Tuesday as part of her £3million damages claim against her former husband for discussing their marriage in his 2019 autobiography, Me.

Sir Elton’s legal counsel Jenny Afia said in a statement: “Elton has always respected Renate’s privacy and will continue to do so.
“It is well documented that their marriage was completely respectful and the relationship both Elton and Renate had after they divorced continued to be kind, respectful and honourable for the 30 years following.
“It will be established in the case that there were multiple affectionate correspondences from Renate direct to Elton during this time.

“We also find it baffling that this claim is centred around privacy when at every stage of these proceedings Renate has chosen to file these claims in the public domain (when she could have chosen to keep them confidential) about supposed experiences that happened during their marriage which completely goes against the entire grounds of the case.
“This only goes to show the true purpose of this claim which is to extract a large sum of money from Elton and tarnish his name publicly with falsehoods.”
