Louis Theroux, Russell Howard, Jenny Eclair and Ovie Soko were the first batch of celebrities involved in the new series of Great British Bake Off for Stand Up for Cancer.
The famous faces were tasked with making four identical mille-feuille (fondly known as a vanilla slice) for the technical challenge, but it didn’t go right for one budding baker.
While Jenny was awarded first place, comedian Russell fell at the first hurdle.
After admitting he couldn’t be bothered to make the pastry properly, he ended up with a severely underbaked item.
And the bad news didn’t stop there.

When he presented his slices to the judges, both Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – who didn’t know who baked what – point blank refused to eat Russell’s inedible bake.
With no creamy vanilla custard in sight, and pastry looking vastly anaemic, Paul deciding against trying the sad-looking mille-feuille.
Finding something good to say, Paul remarked: “They are neat.”

“I’m not going to taste that,” he said. And Prue agreed with his sentiment.
“It’s raw – it is actually raw.”
When explaining why Russell had found himself at the bottom, Prue explained: “They didn’t look bad – but that is where the praise stops.
“The pastry is very raw.”

However, with both judges failing to eat Russell’s creation, many felt sorry for the funnyman.
“I’m gonna need somebody to give Russell a hug please,” one commented.
Another wrote: “Oh Russell, bless him.”
Great British Bake Off for Stand Up For Cancer airs Tuesdays at 8pm.
