Louise Redknapp and Jamie Redknapp shocked the nation when they revealed they were parting ways in 2017 after 19 years of marriage.
The former footy star and Eternal songstress, who share two sons, split shortly after Louise’s stint on Strictly Come Dancing, as she was thrust into the spotlight once more.
Football manager and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! star Harry Redknapp, 73, said at the time that he was “choked” when he heard about the demise of son Jamie’s marriage and that the news “came out of the blue” from his point of view.
Speaking to the Mirror in 2009, Harry said: “I was choked. Absolutely. I just never ever ever could see that happening.
“I thought they were getting married forever. They were such a lovely couple together.
“It came completely as a shock, out of the blue. They were not a showbiz marriage if you like. Lou just did not want to be anywhere without Jamie.
“They were very very down to earth the pair of them. And yeah me and Sandra it was a shock when it happened. Very sad.”
Louise, 45, and Jamie, 47, finalised their divorce in December 2017 and have enjoyed a healthy co-parenting relationship ever since.
Harry and his beloved wife Sandra, 72, who celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this year, hinted that perhaps their son gave up on his marriage to Louise too easily.
In an interview with You magazine in 2019, Harry said: “[In our day] you got married and unless something was drastically wrong, you stayed married…,
“I think it’s too easy now to not make a marriage work,” Sandra added.
Harry and Sandra have maintained a really strong relationship with their former daughter-in-law Louise and Sandra is still in regular contact with Louise’s mum.
In an interview with HELLO! Magazine in April last year, Harry said: “I want to see Lou do well obviously, I love Lou.
“I have no problems with Lou. Sandra loves her and Sandra speaks to her mum all the time.”
