I'm A Celeb to be filmed in 'haunted' castle leaving contestants terrified

The new I’m A Celeb camp will be based in a 200-year-old haunted castle, it is claimed.

Due to Covid restrictions in Australia, the 2020 instalment of the hit reality series will be filmed in North Wales.

It is believed the contestants will be based in the eerie ruins of Gwrych Castle near the picturesque town of Abergele – said to be haunted by the previous owner, the Countess of Dundonald.

Over the years, there have been strange sightings of a floating woman in white in the castle.

The Countess is believed to be angry that her husband took away all the remaining valuables in the castle.

Producers reportedly plan to incorporate the ghost theme into the series, and it is believed they are hoping to capture strange happenings on night-vision cameras.

The source told The Sun: “Producers are chuffed with the new location — they’re excited for a change in scenery this year.

“Obviously upping sticks and moving to a completely new location was a tough decision, but they feel confident it’s the right one.

“The Bushtucker trial crew, who work tirelessly all year round, have been working overtime to come up with some terrifying new trials and challenges.”

They added “it’s a brilliant move for viewers” because “celebs will have no idea what to expect” and “it’s going to be compelling viewing”.

Daily Star Online has contacted ITV for comment.

One photo taken in the castle shows a shadow of what appears to be a young woman in the former banquet hall on the first floor.

What makes it more chilling is the floorboards beneath the window had rotted away, making it impossible to stand there.

There are regularly organised ghost hunts at the tourist hotspot.

Paranormal investigators claimed to have recorded a voice there three years ago and items have been mysteriously moved from the castle.

There are also reports of a ghost of a servant girl who died falling off a horse on the estate and apparitions of past gamekeepers walking the castle’s grounds.

Hosts Ant and Dec have been consulted about the switch to the 250-acre filming location.

They think it will make the “20th series extra special,” according to the source.

The source added it has “been a horrendous year for the whole country” and the “lads want to do their bit to get viewers smiling”.

The show will be broadcast live every night from the castle.

Ant and Dec will host the series, bringing viewers all the news and excitement of the day.

As on the regular series, viewers will see the celebrities undertake gruelling trials and fun-filled challenges to win food and treats.

Trials are set to have a medieval theme, including jousting, dungeons and even fake gallows.
