Kate Garraway 'doesn't know what's round the corner for Derek', says Charlotte

Charlotte Hawkins has opened up on her Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway ‘s “tough time” recently.

The 45-year-old spoke of how her and her co-stars at ITV “don’t know what is around the corner” for Kate’s husband Derek Draper as he remains in hospital.

Derek has been in hospital since March when he was rushed in with coronavirus and had problems breathing.

He was then put into an induced coma to help his body fight the deadly disease and spent 13 weeks in a coma.

Kate, 53, has opened up on her heartbreak many times and has since returned to the news show.

Charlotte revealed to OK! Magazine how she has personally supporting Kate through her pal’s heartbreak and is desperate to hug her but can’t due to social distancing rules.

She said: “It’s been horrific for her and her family.

“She’s been going through such a tough time and she’s continuing to go through a tough time. We don’t know what’s around the corner.

“Everybody at GMB is there for her in whatever way she needs…”

Charlotte continued: “It’s really hard – all I want to do is hug her.”

Opening up about her sweet gesture, the Classic FM host said: “I wanted to show her that I was thinking of her so I sent her a rose called Growing Hope.

“She loves her garden and hopefully planting it will grow some hope for them. It’s been a heartbreaking situation for her.

“I keep everything crossed that Derek is going to be okay.”

It comes after Kate recently revealed Derek’s response when she shared her fears about getting older, and whether she should get plastic surgery.

This came three years before Derek fell ill, Kate opened up about her husband’s sweet comments to her when she turned 50 and worried about ageing in an extract from her 2017 biography ‘The Joy of Big Knickers’.

She recalled her “mid-life crisis” moments as she wrote the book, which were sparked by the celebrations of her 50th birthday.

After her colleagues at Smooth Radio decorated the studio with balloons and banners to celebrate the big day, she realised it was a “very big number”.

She wrote: “It made me think, ‘But I am going to be 50 and it feels like… you should have achieved things or be content with things’.

“I thought, ‘I’m still overstretched, overworked, feeling like I’m not being as good a mum as I should be or as good at work as I should be’. I needed to take stock.”
