Kate Garraway forced to find new ways to keep strong as Derek remains in coma

Television presenter Kate Garraway has revealed she has been forced to find new ways of keeping strong for her children as her husband Derek Draper remains critically ill in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain star has been devastated ever since Derek Draper was struck down by Covid-19 in March.

Th former lobbyist, 52, has been in intensive care for two months and is still unable to communicate with his family.

As the weeks go on with no improvement, I’m A Celebrity star Kate has told fans she is trying to keep going for their children, 14-year-old Darcey and Billy, 10.

Celebrating the final Clap for Carers on Thursday evening, Kate said: “I felt the tears come to think it’s coming to an end while our fear for Derek goes on.

“But even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the NHS.

“They are keeping Derek alive and every one of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited.

“Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it? I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey and Billy, as I know Derek would want me to.

“It’s not easy but when I think of how hard Derek is fighting and the bravery of all in the NHS it helps.

“Thanks so much for all your messages and thanks for sharing on club Garraway.com. Standing together and learning from each other has to get us all through.”

Derek is currently fighting for his life in a coma.

Kate’s GMB co-stars Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins told ITV viewers how they are “praying” Derek “will pull through” as they updated viewers on his condition.

Television star Ben, 45, previously revealed that Kate calls her husband in intensive care every night, but has “no idea” if he is able to hear her.

Derek, who married Kate in 2005, was taken to hospital on March 30, where he tested positive for coronavirus.

Covid-19 has so far claimed the lives of more than 37,000 people across the UK.

In a recent Instagram post, Kate told her 778,00 followers that “there is still hope” husband Derek can recover from the virus.

Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan has said he’s “rooting” for Kate Garraway’s “very ill” husband Derek in an emotional social media post recently.

The TV star, 55, sent some kind words of support to Derek and Kate.

He tweeted: “Come on Derek – we’re all rooting for you. And we’re all here for you Kate.”

Piers added a slew of clapping emojis and a love heart.
