Kiss guitarist Bob Kulick has died, devastated brother confirms

Kiss guitarist Bob Kulick has died aged 70, his brother has confirmed.

Bob’s younger brother and former Kiss member Bruce Kulick broke the news on Friday, though his cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Bruce wrote: “I am heartbroken to have to share the news of the passing of my brother Bob Kulick.

“His love of music, and his talent as a musician and producer should always be celebrated.

“I know he is at peace now, with my parents, playing his guitar as loud as possible. Please respect the Kulick Family’s privacy during this very sad time.”

Kulick is best remembered for his work with the iconic rock group Kiss, and for having co-written the SpongeBob SquarePants song Sweet Victory.

Though Kulick never became the lead guitarist for Kiss, the band’s members – Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss – were impressed by his work.

The New Yorker recorded with the band in their studio, playing uncredited guitar rifts on the albums Alive II, Unmasked, Killers and Creatures of the Night.

Following in his footsteps, his brother Bruce went on to become the band’s lead guitarist, replacing the late Mark St. John.

Kulick played with a number of successful artists over the course of his career, working alongside Lou Reed, Michael Bolton and W.A.S.P, and touring with Meat Loaf.

A resident of Las Vegas until his death, Kulick often took part in the annual “KISS Night in Las Vegas” fundraiser for music programs in local schools.

Since news of his death broke, tributes have been flooding in from figures across the music industry, paying tribute to his life and legacy in the recording studio.

US radio star Lou Brutus wrote: “Very sad to hear of the passing of the great Bob Kulick. A phenomenal player and overall cool human being. My condolences to his fans, friends, and family, especially his brother Bruce (another wonderful person).”

Sons of Apollo singer Jeff Scott added: “Ugh, another peer, colleague & someone I considered friend has passed. I worked with Bob Kulick on many recordings through the years, most notably the many tribute albums he produced.

“My condolences to his brother Bruce and extended Kulick family.”

While pro wrestler Chris Jericho wrote: “Sorry to hear about the passing of the legendary @bobkulickmusic. I’ve known #BobKulick for 15 years and had the pleasure of working with him three times on a few of his famous “All Star Tribute” albums. Bob…”
