Love Island 'highly unlikely' to air in summer due to coronavirus outbreak

Love Island fans could be left disappointed as it’s claimed the ITV2 show is likely to not air this summer amid the coronavirus outbreak.

According to reports, Love Island chiefs have gathered to discuss the future prospects of the summer programme going ahead as planned in June and it was revealed that “all the signs are pointing to not airing the show”.

Planning meetings that were due to happen over the next few weeks have now been postponed as Covid-19 continues to reap havoc worldwide.

An ITV source revealed to The Sun: “A huge amount of work goes into Love Island and to pull everything together in a very short space of time would be near impossible.

“Casting aside, they need to think about all the paperwork necessary, the show’s insurance and all the tests that cast members must undergo.”

Speaking about government sanctions that could prevent the show going ahead at all, the insider added: “The team are also very conscious that if overseas travel restrictions are not lifted in time, filming in Mallorca as normal will be ruled out of the question.

“Not to mention the risks of cast members and crew contracting the virus, or pulling out because their family members have become seriously ill.

“All the signs are pointing towards the show not airing.”

Although it isn’t just the Love Island who is under threat this summer, Great British Bake Off is also said to have delayed filming that usually takes place over the Easter period.

Filming usually takes place in Newbury, Berkshire but local residents have raised their discrepancies about the masses of crew and cast members who normally flock to their home town.

A source revealed to the publication: “Crunch talks about Bake Off this year are happening very soon.

“The last thing anyone wants to do is postpone the show, but in the current situation we may find there is just no other choice.”

An ITV insider revealed: “We wouldn’t be behaving in a responsible way if we weren’t having conversations about whether or not we should go ahead.

“The safety of everyone involved in the show – including the audiences – is Simon’s paramount concern and if it isn’t safe the live finals will be postponed.”
