Love Island's Dr Alex warns sex with new people is dangerous amid coronavirus

Doctor Alex George has warned that having sex with new partners is dangerous while the country is in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 29-year-old NHS doctor, who starred in Love Island in 2018, is currently fighting Covid-19 at a London hospital.

Dr Alex has advised people not to have sex with new partners in a bid to tackle the virus and stop it from spreading.

Although Alex’s advice may seem obvious as the country is currently in lockdown, photos are still emerging showing people ignoring the warnings and gathering in large groups.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a fortnight ago that people can only leave the house to shop for essential items, travel to work if you can’t work from home and to exercise for up to one hour a day.

Speaking on BBC’s Newsbeat, Dr Alex answered viewers burning questions on how Covid-19 affects someone’s sex life.

He said: “If you’re in a relationship… living with that person, and sharing the same environment, it shouldn’t change your situation.

“However if one of you is displaying symptoms of coronavirus then you should maintain your social-distancing and isolate, even within your home.

“In an ideal world everyone would stay two metres apart – even in their own house, but we realise this may not be realistic.

“I certainly wouldn’t advise having new sexual partners at the moment, because the risk is you could pass on the virus.”

He added: “If you’ve kissed or been in contact with someone who you think has gone on to develop coronavirus, make sure you self-isolate.”

Dr Alex also appeared on Sky News this morning as he revealed he saw a number of patients die yesterday from the virus.

“Yesterday’s shift was a particularly busy one,” he told Sky’s Kay Burley.

“We had quite a few patients who were really quite unwell from coronavirus.

“Unfortunately, a few deaths as well which is always tough.”
