Phil Schofield says Holly Willoughby is a 'good counsellor' in sweet admission

Phillip Schofield has gushed over his close pal and This Morning co-star Holly Willoughby and branded her a “good counsellor” and a “remarkable person”.

The 58-year-old television star chatted about his friendship with Holly on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.

He chatted to the host on Monday morning about his new autobiography Life’s What You Make It, and revealed Holly’s reaction to the book.

Phil said: “She texted me yesterday, she WhatsApp’d me and said she’d finished the book and she was so lovely about it.

“She has been incredible, I’m very lucky to have astonishing people around me who have been brilliant and when the wheels fell off the world, and we all went into lockdown and Holly and I were doing our own makeup in the This Morning studio on our own, thinking ‘what the hell is going on here’, it was like a therapy session all the way through.

“We knew that we were going upstairs to do the show, and people were saying ‘thank god you’re still on, thank god you’re still on, it’s just a bit of normality’ and for us, and for me, spending those mornings with Holly, and she is a very good counsellor, so those mornings were gold dust and she’s definitely a remarkable person.”

Phil’s book release comes months after he came out as gay, with the star publicly revealing his sexuality in February this year.

The Cube host also spoke to Moyles about doing the audiobook for his autobiography, and said it was “tough in places” and every so often he “cried”.

He explained: “The audiobook was fascinating, I went into the studio, I had a lovely engineer/producer, called Joss, and I walked in and I was going to be there all week… it’s about 10 and a half hours long.

“He said ‘don’t worry, I’ve read the last chapter, I’ve read the prologue, I know the bits that are going to be really tough, so if it gets really hard we’ll just have a cup of tea and we’ll have a chat’.

“And every so often the wheels came off, and every so often I had a bit of a cry, and then we carried on and it was actually a really lovely experience.”
