Phillip Schofield has confessed to trying to cost This Morning a “fortune” as he presented another glitzy version of Spin to Win on Wednesday’s show.
The wacky ITV gameshow sees Phil and Holly Willoughby call up viewers at home, and spin the giant gold wheel in a bid to earn some cash on their behalf.
In a cheeky confession, the 58-year-old host admitted to “adjusting” the wheel to fix the game, helping callers to rack up more savings than expected.
Gesturing to the glittering wheel, he said: “Every day I try to adjust my spin. I try to cost this show a fortune.”
Nodding in agreement, his co-host Holly confessed: “You do!”
On today’s show, one lucky caller from Stoke-on-Trent was in with a chance of winning, raking in an impressive £750 as the wheel spun.
Phil and Holly then helped the caller out with the bonus question, dropping a major hint so he could take home the This Morning goodie bag.
Asked to name the band behind the hit song “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the caller was initially stumped by the query, only for Holly to reveal the title was the opposite of “King”.
Correctly guessing “Queen,” the caller was thrilled to take home the bag of goodies, which includes a scented candle and a jigsaw.
In the past, Phil has taken the opportunity in the past to rig the wheel before the camera if the caller truly deserves the bigger sum.
Back in April, Phil fixed the game so an ICU worker named Anna could take home £1,000, instead of the £500 the game had determined.
Paying tribute to the hard work done by the NHS frontline staff, he said: “Anna is an ICU nurse who is directly helping COVID-19 patients.
“On behalf of the entire nation to you, and everyone working for the NHS or in care homes, thank you for being our angels.
“We can’t call everyone but you’re the one we have called.”
Phil and Holly then spun the wheel for Anna, doctoring the spin so the jackpot landed at the thousand-pound mark.
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
