Phillip Schofield makes dig at Piers Morgan as This Morning beats GMB for award

Television presenter Phillip Schofield took a cheeky swipe at fellow ITV star Piers Morgan today after This Morning beat Good Morning Britain to win a TV Choice award.

The ITV daytime show, hosted by Phillip, and Holly Willoughby, took home the gong for Best Daytime Show.

Alison Hammond was on hand to share the exciting news this morning.

With Good Morning Britain also up for the award, Phillip, 57, couldn’t resist saying: “Thank you, sorry Piers!” after his win.

Alison interrupted the programme to make the announcement, taking the award out of the oven as she told viewers at home there was no glitzy ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Big Brother star said: “This Morning has won a TV Choice Award for Best Daytime TV show everyone. It’s in the oven.

“Because of Covid, there’s no award show or anything.

“This is the fifth one we’ve won now.

She added: “We’ve beat GMB, Piers Morgan, Loose Women, The Chase.

Holly, 39, added: “And we do like this award because it’s voted for by the readers.”

Alison admitted she thought This Morning won the prize due to their coverage of the coronavirus crisis.

The bubbly star said: “This is due to Covid why we’ve got this and we do deserve it. We do.”

Things got off to a tricky start this morning as Holly told viewers that she almost had to present the show without Phillip.

She explained: “You are lucky you’ve got two of us today because I was almost presenting the show alone, wasn’t I? What happened to you today?!”

Phil responded: “On your phone, you set your alarm from Monday to Thursday. Last week, it went off perfectly.

“This morning, it just didn’t bother. How can that happen?!”

Holly added: “I don’t know how that can happen.”

“That’s quite scary. So you had a last minute dash?”

Phillip replied: “Yes! It’s when you wake up and you look at your phone and your heart just goes, ‘Boof!'”

Holly said: “It happens once a year though and at least you’ve got yours out of the way early on in the term.”

This Morning air weekdays on ITV at 10am
