The duo have constantly fond themselves embroiled in Twitter spats over the past few years – often locking horns over Brexit.
After seeing Gary complain that they pushing ahead with Brexit was “undemocratic” and accused the “elite of dictating to the country,” Piers hit out: “Mate, it doesn’t get more elite than you…as BBC licence fee payers know to our cost.”
At the time Gary has just been revealed as the top earner at the BBC enjoying a bumper £1.75 million salary.

Making the feud personal, Gary responded: “Mate, it doesn’t get much more elite than ostentatiously showing off your wealth (you constantly tell me you earn way more than me) with a deluge of pictures by marauding, around the Côte d’Azur on a yacht.”
Though always keen to get the last laugh, Piers retorted: “I don’t pretend not to be in the elite… and it’s not my fault I earn far more than you, it’s my talent.”
