The Queen is reportedly sending Dame Vera Lynn’s family a private message following the wartime singer’s death.
Her Majesty has recognised the Forces’ sweetheart on a number of occasions over the years after Vera was honoured by the Queen after becoming a national treasure during World War Two.
Vera inspired the nation and became a national sweetheart for her empowering wartime classic songs We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover.
Her songs not only inspired during the war but have continued to do so ever since.
Sadly it was announced today that Vera has died at the age of 103.

The Queen referenced Vera, who she has met on a number of occasions, once again two months ago during her speech amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Her Majesty referenced to Vera’s iconic song We’ll Meet Again at the end of her speech, by ending it by saying, “we will meet again”.
Speaking on her thoughts towards the Queen, Vera previously told The Sun in April: “I watched the Queen’s speech which was wonderful, but I didn’t know that Her Majesty was going to finish up with the words, ‘We will meet again’.

“I have met the Queen on a number of occasions.
“You have to have something and someone that we can all look up to and rely on in times of trouble, and Her Majesty is that person.”
Vera’s family confirmed her death today by publishing the following statement: “The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers at the age of 103.”
