Robin Williams' devastating secret struggle with misdiagnosed brain disease

Robin Williams was none the wiser at the time of his death that he was suffering an incurable brain disease as he fought hard to remember his lines while filming.

On the set of the Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb In Vancouver Williams had complications with remembering his script.

At the age of 63, the Hollywood actor, tragically took his own life at his Californian home on August 11 , 2014.

In the same year, the award winning star was hit with the devastating diagnosis that he was battling Parkinson’s disease.

But, much to everyone’s surprise an autopsy later revealed that the actor had actually been misdiagnosed.

His results surfaced, suggesting that he’d actually battled with Lewy body dementia – a rare form of the degenerative disease.

Sadly, the actor who was most loved for his extraordinary talents, including impersonations had no idea that he was actually fighting an incurable brain disease.

Bringing his story to life, touching on the devastation and catastrophic impact of the unknown disease, David Itzkoff sheds light on the situation, in his new book Robin.

While forgetting lines seemed to be at the brunt of his frustrations, Robin had a whole host of worrying symptoms including insomnia, loss of his sense of smell and trouble urinating.

In the biography, Robin’s makeup artist, Cheri Minns, shared her final encounter with the star as he broke down wondering where his career would take him, if he couldn’t manage to think up the movie script.

She said: “He was sobbing in my arms at the end of every day. It was horrible. Horrible,” she told The New York Post.

“He just cried and said, ‘I can’t [return to stand-up comedy], Cheri. I don’t know how anymore. I don’t know how to be funny.'”

Soon after Robin’s death rumours circulated about the comedian and actor’s mental health along with possible financial difficulties.

Robin had three children, Zackary, Zelda and Cody from his first two marriages and also left behind his third wife Susan Schnieder.
