Controversial R’n’B singer Mark Morrison wants to be mayor in his home city of Leicester.
The star – who topped the charts with Return Of The Mack in 1996 – says the council failed to back his plan to open a recording studio for young people to steer them away from knife crime.
Now he wants to oust mayor Sir Peter Soulsby after a Zoom call to discuss it was scrapped.
Morrison, 48, said: “If I run against him I win, easy. He’s tried to play me. He had me running around the city looking for buildings.

“I looked at places mainly in Granby Street and found a few buildings in the Cultural Quarter.
“The building should be in the Cultural Quarter, I’m part of this culture.”
Morrison said the council gave him no response to a query about venues.

The star, who spent a year in jail after paying a lookalike to do community service he got for his role in a brawl which left a man dead, said: “I’m an old school guy. I’m more of a ‘pick up the phone’ kind of guy, and so is he.
“So I invited him to my balcony for tea, which is socially safe. He declined. This man needs to come out of office.
“He has shown me he is not a man of his word. I’m seriously looking at running for mayor.”
Sir Peter said it was Morrison who failed to attend the Zoom meeting and it was also not clear how his plan would cut crime.
The Labour mayor said he looked forward to taking him on at the ballot box.
