Strictly confirms EastEnders' Maisie Smith has signed for show despite clashes

Maisie Smith has signed up to strut her stuff on the famous ballroom floor in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The news was confirmed on the Strictly Instagram account today.

This comes despite the fact that the 19-year-old EastEnders actress is said to have clashed with BBC bosses.

It’s claimed the clash happened over Maisie promoting brands on her social media accounts including TikTok, which has seen her amass an army of followers.

Maisie, who catapulted to fame playing loudmouth Tiffany Butcher, was recently at the centre of an investigation due to her “unruly” behaviour.

Speaking to The Sun, an insider claimed it was “weird” to give her the opportunity to appear on Strictly as her future faced uncertainty at the broadcasting corporation.

“It is unthinkable that Strictly would sign her after the few weeks she has had,” they said.

“The show is the pinnacle of the BBC and gives rising stars and established ones a huge step to more fame.

“So it’s very weird to give someone whose future was very unclear just weeks ago such an opportunity.”

They went on to speculate what could be the reason behind Maisie’s signing: “Perhaps they see it as a way of nailing down a rising star rather than her leaving and taking with her a young audience.”

It’s been reported that Maisie was offered a large sum of cash from record labels to promote their client’s records on her viral videos.

Maisie, who has a huge 1.7 million followers on the social media site TikTok, had previously asked BBC bosses if she could accept similar deals, but was subsequently turned down.

It’s claimed by The Sun that Masie had said she would walk away from the programme if things came to a head.

Other names that have been announced so far include actress Caroline Quentin, NFL star Jason Bell, The Wanted singer Max George, GMB’s Ranvir Singh, radio presenter Clara Amfo and Olympic star Nicola Adams.
