The TV Baftas 2020 award ceremony has been postponed, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The event was due to be held in May, but BAFTA bosses have decided to reschedule the ceremony for later in the year.
A spokeswoman said: “Following the latest government advice on coronavirus (Covid-19), we regret to announce that the British Academy Television Craft Awards and Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, originally scheduled for 26 April and 17 May respectively, will be postponed until later in the year.”
Hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the awards ceremony pays tribute to the biggest and brightest names in the UK TV industry.
The nominations for this year’s TV Baftas were due to be announced on March 26, though the shortlist will be held back “until closer to the ceremony”.

The statement continued: “We’re working with all our partners to explore options for new dates and we hope to be in a position to confirm them in the coming weeks.
“We are continually monitoring the situation to ensure we are prepared for the challenges we may face in the coming weeks and months.

“We are closely following the advice of the World Health Organisation, NHS and GOV UK/Public Health England, and the safety of our members, guests and staff remains our top priority.”
News of the TV Baftas temporary cancellation is the latest in a string of halts in the TV and film industry.
Yesterday, it was announced Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty have suspended filming in an effort to contain the virus.
BBC bosses said: “In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, the producers – Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions – of Peaky Blinders S6 have postponed filming, and World Productions on Line of Duty S6 have suspended filming, both in consultation with and supported by the BBC.”

Before adding: “We will continue to review all productions on a case-by-case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organization and Public Health England.”
