Pop Idol star Will Young got candid about his relationship with his brother in an interview back in 2008 and said that taking a step back from him helped save him.
Tragically, it was confirmed Monday that his twin brother Rupert heartbreakingly died at the age of 41.
A spokesperson for the singer confirmed the death and requested privacy for the star “during this very difficult and sad time”.
Evergreen singer Will had previously spoken about Rupert’s mental health issues and battles with alcohol and admitted that “it’s very tough having a family member who is an addict”.

Speaking to the Daily Record back in 2008, Will revealed that he and the rest of the family had stepped away from his brother to try and help him get better.
He shared: “It was the family stepping away that actually got him better. It’s very tough having a family member who is an addict. But when you’re dealing with that you eventually have to just stop and look after yourself.
“Me, my parents, my older sister, everyone. We all just had to walk away. We had to leave him.”

That same year, Will’s brother Rupert also spoke candidly about his struggles with depression.
Rupert, who set up mental health charity The Mood Foundation in the late 2000s, recalled what it was like seeing brother Will performing on morning television when he had spent the previous night drinking and self-harming.
He shared: “It seemed bizarre to me that two people who are genetically the same could behave in such different ways.”
In 2015, Will spoke about having post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which he partly attributed to being separated from his twin brother at birth, as Rupert was rushed into an incubator.
