Adam Woodyatt says he got motor home as he 'hates hotels' on theatre tour

Adam Woodyatt has explained his decision to move into a motor home following his exit from BBC One soap EastEnders.

The Ian Beale star is set to go on a theatre tour in July, after the dates were pushed back from January.

And he said that he chose to move in to a motor home to stop him having to live in a new hotel each night.

He said on The One Show: “Because I’ve been doing this theatre tour, I didn’t want to stay in hotels, I’m not a great fan of it.

“I’ve got friends who spend a lot of time on the road and I just thought, ‘I’m gonna get a motor home.

“‘I can drive all over the country.'”

But he went on: “I’m not looking forward to finishing work in Edinburgh on the Saturday night and starting on the Monday in Brighton – it’s a hell of a drive, but that’s the schedule, it’s what we’ve got to do.”

The actor could be seen sitting in the outdoors, beside a picturesque lake near where he had parked his new temporary home.

“I’m loving it,” he told hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating.

However EastEnders fans won’t be loving what he had to say about his return as Ian to the soap.

“I don’t know, that’s the honest answer,” he said.

“The tour runs, at the moment, until the end of October, my daughter’s then getting married in America so I’m off there for that.

“There’s a possibility – and I really hope it does happen – that the tour carries on into the early part of next year to pick up the dates we had to postpone because of the lockdown.

“So, if the tour carries on, I’m not going to be back in EastEnders until some time in 2022… sorry!”

It sounds like Adam has been having a lovely time in his new home, though.

He said: “I was on that bank fishing from seven o’clock this morning until about 10 minutes before I had to start this… quickly got changed.

“It’s a very easy lake to fish, it’s not a difficult one. I’m not Scott Maslen – I’m not a carp fisherman, I’m very much a novice who picked it up again in the first lockdown.”

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One
