Alex Beresford's ex-colleague asked if he was 'worried' over baby's skin colour

Good Morning Britain star Alex Beresford said a “former colleague” asked him if he was “worried about the shade of cocoa”, his baby would be.

The 40-year-old weather reporter spoke about the racism he has encountered in the workplace in ITV’s Harry & Meghan: The Week That Shook The Royals last night.

Last week, Alex clashed with ex GMB presenter Piers Morgan over his fiery criticism of Meghan Markle, and later that day Morgan quit the ITV programme.

During Ophrah Winfrey’s tell-all interview with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex said there had been discussions in the “institution” about the colour of her unborn baby, when she was pregnant with Archie.

While discussing Markle’s interview, Alex said he had experienced racism in the workplace as a “former colleague” asked whether he was “worried” what colour his son would be when born.

He said in the ITV documentary: “I’m a mixed race man myself, my son’s mother is white and I had a former colleague ask me the very question and the exact words were ‘are you worried about the shade of cocoa that your baby is going to come out’.”

Alex continued: “And the key word in that sentence is not ‘cocoa’ but is ‘worried’.

“Of course we are going to wonder what features the baby will take but you would have these conversations whether it was two white parrots or two black parrots, but context is everything and they led us to believe that it was said in a concerned context, which is offensive”, he said.

Last week Piers Morgan stormed off the set of GMB after Beresford called him out for his continued criticism of Markle.

The weather presenter had said to Piers: “I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off.

“She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.”

Piers suddenly stood up and said: “I’m done with this. Sorry. You can trash me, mate, but not on my own show.”

He said while storming off: “See you later, can’t do this.”

ITV announced later that day that Piers had left GMB.

Later that week Morgan admitted he left after he refused to apologise for his comments about Meghan Markle.
