Andrew Neil 'unlikely to continue to present GB News just three months after launch'

Andrew Neil is set to return to GB News later this month after his recent break but sources suggest it is likely the presenter will be stepping back from his prime-time political show for good.

The 72-year-old journalist spent two weeks presenting his news show before he took a lengthy two-month break after the channel’s launch was cursed with a series of poor ratings.

The chairman of GB News has made just one appearance on the political show since June, in which he returned to discuss President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan on August 19.

Following his sudden absence, former Sky news anchor Colin Brazier has stepped into his shoes with Alastair Stewart, who presents the weekend show, set to cover for him as he prepares to jet off on his own holiday this week.

An inside source has since alleged Metro.co.uk that Neil is still set to return to his nightly show in September, but the broadcaster is not expected to be hosting the show as initially promoted when it launched back in June.

Daily Star has reached out to GB News for a comment.

Prior to his lengthy departure, Neil urged viewers to support the growing channel despite a “rocky” start.

He admitted: “We’re a start-up, they’re always a bit rocky these start-ups. But we are up and running as you can see, we get better every day and there’s clearly an appetite for what we’re doing.

“And in two short weeks, we’ve already built a loyal audience which has beaten all of our expectations, it’s often bigger than the other news channels and it’s growing.”

He added: “On behalf of GB News, I say to all of our viewers, thank you.”

One of their most successful segments has been Talking Pints with Nigel Farage

Although many of the channel’s programmes which have sunk to “zero viewers”, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage has brought in record-breaking figures with his first ever show raking in 107,000 viewers surpassing new giants BBC News and Sky.

The member of parliament hosted the segment titled Talking Pints in which he chats with his guests over a beer about the political developments that week which has received rave reviews from fans online.

Although the news channel has faced its fair share of difficulties in the first three months, new figures has shown that GB News’ reach is much larger on social media platforms including TikTok and YouTube, while the GB News app boasts almost 300,000 downloads and rising.
