BBC Breakfast weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans was emotional as he reunited with his husband after his epic 24-hour charity drumathon to raise money for Children in Need.
Looking dapper in a light blue tailored suit, the presenter performed Baby one more time by Britney Spears, alongside the Royal Marine Drumming Band, as the clock counted down the final seconds of the challenge.
Gold confetti filled the air as he completed the challenge, with the presenter breaking down in tears and hugging his husband and close friends in an emotional reunion as the 24 drumathon ended.
Speaking straight afterwards, he said: “Jane, I just can’t believe that we’ve done it.
“It’s just felt like a really long time. It’s been really hard. The generosity of people has just been incredible.”
Prior to the drumathon ending, a tired Owain said: “I’m feeling overwhelmed. People have been so generous.”
Speaking on the BBC Breakfast sofa straight afterwards, Owain revealed that “surprisingly my hands have held up ok.
“We’ve had some problems with my arms as they have been moving for 24 hours,” but added, “It’s been amazing.”
During the 24 hour drumathon, Owain was joined by musicians including Harry Judd from McFly, celebrities including Al Murray and over 50 drummers who performed with the presenter throughout the night.
He had previously told The One Show during the challenge that “I’ve got a couple of cuts, my arms are starting to ache now and my back is aching as well, but oh my goodness this is just amazing to be part of, you two, and I’m having a great time!”
At that point, Owain had already raised half a million pounds, with fans taking to social media to praise his incredible achievements.
It was then revealed after the challenge that he had raised a total of £1,617,046 during the drumathon, with Owain saying: “I can’t believe that.
“Thank you so much to everybody who has put your hands in your pocket and donated.”
Owain first shared his talent for drumming during the lockdown in 2020, when he posted a video of himself playing the BBC news theme with the caption: “When they said try working from home, I didn’t realise they’d expect me to do the music too.”
The video was shared thousands of times, as fans around the world were wowed by the presenter’s incredible drumming skills.
