Tipping Point and GMB host Ben Shephard was left bed bound and needing surgery after a terrible sporting injury during a veterans’ football match.
Now the TV presenter has joked that he has a ‘bionic leg’ after undergoing surgery. He had ruptured his ACL, tore multiple other muscles and ligaments.
ACL reconstruction is a surgery that replaces a torn anterior cruciate in the leg, and Ben has been undergoing physiotherapy to aid his recovery.
Ben not only ruptured his ACL, but he also tore his meniscus, the piece of cartilage that provides a cushion between your thigh bone and shin bone.
Ben has shared an update about his injury on his Instagram Stories he revealed that his knee was still swollen.
The video clips showed him using a machine from Complex UK to stimulate the muscles in his leg.
The TV favourite wrote alongside the video: “Ridiculously excited about this @complex_uk.
“Right just trying to stimulate the quad while reducing the swelling around my knee.
“Gone full bionic leg @complex_uk @physiolabtechnologies.”
Ben was laid up at home for 12 days in recovery, so was away from oTV screens for a while at the start of the month.
The former Sky Sports presenter has battled on and has now returned to his duties on the ITV shows.
On his first day back in the GMB studios, Ben deflected the well wishes from viewers and co-host Susanna Reid.
He said: “If it’s at all possible, could you send some of that love to my wife? Because she’s the one who’s really struggling.”
Ben has taken part in seven different seasons of Soccer Aid on ITV, and he is devoted to raising money for charity through fitness.
In 2018 he ws appointed the coach of the England team for the footie charity campaign, as an injury meant he was unable to take to the pitch.
