The BRIT Awards 2021 are set to have a live audience at their ceremony on May 11 after collaborating with the government on their vaccine passport programme.
Insiders have confirmed to Daily Star that talks have been on going for weeks though the final decision is yet to be officially confirmed.
The vaccine passport would work as an update to the track and trace NHS app – allowing the user to have their Covid status on their devices.
The awards will take place at London’s O2 Arena – just over a month before Boris Johnson is due to lift all social distancing rules on June 21.
Last year bosses made the decision to push back the awards from February to May in a bid to allow the evening to be as close to normal as possible.
A source told Daily Star: “BRITs bosses are determined to have as many people at the awards as possible but safety has to come first.
“They are pushing for a live audience and want to be seen as the first big event to take place.
“Talks with the government have been taking place for weeks about using their controversial vaccine passport app.”
A spokesperson for The BRIT Awards confirmed plans are in motion though the exact details are yet to be set out.
In a statement to Daily Star, the BRITs said: “We are exploring options with Government about whether some audience attendance at this year’s BRIT Awards is possible.
“Putting on an event as complex as The BRITs during the pandemic means that many additional safeguards are needed.”
Confirming the vaccine passport platform is on the cards, they added: “We hope this year’s show can be part of the pilot scheme, but some practical considerations still have to be addressed with Government and we are not yet in a position to make a final decision.”
Despite the awards teaming up with the government, insiders admit full blown record label parties that have become so popular with music fans will not be taking place as usual.
An insider said: “Lockdown wouldn’t be fully lifted to a full blown label bash can’t happen.
“There are no talks to use the vaccine passport scheme to allow the usual post show parties.”
A spokesman for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport has been contacted by Daily Star for comment.
So far Dua Lipa and Griff have been announced as performers for the 2021 BRITS.
Once again, comedian Jack Whitehall will host the show.
