Cheryl Tweedy has shared her heartbreak following the devastating news that her bandmate, Sarah Harding is facing an even tougher battle with cancer.
The Newcastle-born songstress admitted that she felt “hopeless” after discovering the extent of Sarah’s battle through an extract of her autobiography, Hear Me Out, which is published on March 18.
Cheryl, 37, who last performed with Sarah on March 20, 2013, before Girls Aloud announced their split, now wants to be alongside her pal whenever she needs somebody to talk to.
An extract of Sarah’s book stated that she was told by doctors that Christmas 2020 is likely to be her last after it was confirmed her breast cancer had spread to her spine and possibly her brain.

In an extract published by Glamour magazine, Cheryl penned: “The news of Sarah’s illness hit me so hard. Since that day, she’s been on my brain every waking hour – so much so that I feel like I want to be with her.”
The Fight For This Love songstress went on to add that she and Sarah, 39, chat away for hours on FaceTime but Sarah can also feel “wiped out” after undergoing treatment.

Cheryl continued: “Initially, I felt helpless, I struggled to find the right words to say when I spoke to her, and I didn’t know what to do or how to be.”
“Now I just want to be there for her in any way I can.
“To hear her talk about what might have been in her life, and what should have been, destroys me, it’s broken me now, just thinking about it.”

Despite splitting in 2013, Girls Aloud recently reunited, away from the cameras at Soho Farmhouse, an exclusive members club in Chipping Norton, when the lockdown restrictions were eased.
Threads singer Sarah wrote that she was feeling apprehensive about the reunion after losing her eyelashes and feeling bloated due to her treatment.

Manchester-girl Sarah noted that during their ten-year chart reign, Girls Aloud were known for their “sexiness” and she was worried about how she would feel alongside her bandmates, Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.
While she may have had her reservations, Sarah actually reunited with her bandmates in the car park of the swanky retreat – instantly putting all of her worries to the back of her mind.
As the On The Metro hitmakers reunited, they sat down to watch their fly on the wall documentary, Girls Aloud: Off The Record as they reflected on their glittering career.
Sarah has written in her book how she doesn’t wish to know her exact prognosis as she wants to enjoy her life as she is unsure of “how many months” she has left.
Hear Me Out, by Sarah Harding is available to purchase from March 18.
