Coronation Street wins best soap at National Television Awards after successful night

Coronation Street won the best Serial Drama award at this year’s National Television Awards 2021.

The cast of the soap was at the annual ceremony which celebrates the nation’s favourite TV from over the past year.

And it was a big year for the ITV favourite as Mollie Gallagher and Jude Riordan scooped up solo awards too.

The soaps nominated for the glittering award this year were Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and EastEnders.

Last year, saw long-running ITV soap Emmerdale crowned the big winners of the night, landing best soap.

The annual ceremony was live from London’s O2 arena where fans could watch the show for the first time in 18 months due to the pandemic.

Viewers could watch the night’s proceeding on ITV with comedian and I’m A Celeb runner-up Joel Dommett playing host for the evening.

Corrie won big at this year’s NTAs

Fans have had a great deal of drama over the past year in Soap Land.

It has seen everything from murder, planned attacks, reunions and marriages.

Corrie has seen a whole load of great storylines from the past 12 months including horrific abuse, tragic deaths and, of course, plenty of love.

Every year at the National Television Awards fans of TV get to decide who they vote for with categories such as best Serial Drama Performance, Quiz Game Show, Drama Performance and Returning Drama all up for grabs.

New category Authored Documentary saw celebrities struggle as they opened up about their personal lives through the camera.

It was set to be a tough category as the celebs dealt with raw and emotional topics.

In this year’s nominations, they included Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, Katie Price: Harvey and Me, Rob Burrow: My Year with MND.

As well as strong nominations from Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency and Marcus Rashford Feeding Britain’s Children.
