Dancing on Ice's Golden Ticket handed to Sonny Jay seeing him skate next week

Dancing on Ice’s Golden Ticket was handed to Sonny Jay this week.

The Capital Fm DJ skates through to next week after impressing the judges with his upbeat routine.

Sonny impressed the judges with his performance, with Ashley Banjo in particular saying just how entertaining it was.

However, he did flag that there were moments where Sonny dropped his character on the ice, which made him score the 27 year old down a couple of points.

Clearly delighted that he was given the Golden Ticket, Sonny took to Twitter to share a snap of his hand holding it, which he captioned: “I’m so chuffed.”

Sonny’s fans came out in full force to congratulate the amateur skater in the comments section of his tweet.

One social networker penned: “So well deserved.”

While another continued: “Yayy, we are so thrilled.”

A third added: “Congrats on getting that golden ticket, you so deserve it.”

Sonny’s fans rushed to congratulate him

The Dancing on Ice golden ticket twist proved a controversial one last week, when it was first debuted on the show.

Comedian Rufus Hound found himself to be the first recipient of the accolade, which saw him skate through to next week’s show.

Rufus looked to be visibly shocked and stunned in equal measure after the decision was revealed.

Some viewers were in agreement with judges Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman – however others didn’t think it was the right call.

Many viewers thought it should have been handed to the celebrity couple who received the highest mark.

Speaking to the Mirror, judges Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman defended the decision.

John said: “I know people are ranting and raving about it saying we’re late to the game with it, but it’s not late to the game for Dancing On Ice, it’s the first time we’re doing it, it’s new!

“It allows us that if there is a skater who is good and we want to save them, and they might be in a position where we need to save them as someone who is not as good is getting way more votes, it allows us to play that game and I think it’s important.”
