Dancing on Ice's Rufus Hound slams government as he cries over golden ticket

Dancing on Ice contestant Rufus Hound broke down in tears at the end of the first show after being given the very first Golden Ticket.

The new twist was introduced to the ITV show this year and means the lucky recipient is exempt from being in the very first skate off.

The 41-year-old actor and comedian was stunned as all of the judges chose him to receive the ticket – and ended up becoming emotional as he stood beside his professional partner Robin Johnstone.

Welling up, Rufus looked shocked as he carefully took the ticket from host Phillip Schofield whilst remaining socially distanced.

Actor and comedian Rufus Hound became tearful as he received the first Golden Ticket on Sunday evening

After promising to keep up his efforts for the weeks to come, Phillip asked Rufus if he ever thought he could have imagined he would be stood on ice in a pair of skates holding a Golden Ticket.

“We live in a world where the people we elect don’t want to feed hungry children, this is the least mad thing that has happened to me in a long time,” he replied.

Phillip had mentioned the twist at the beginning of Sunday’s episode as he returned to hosting duties for the ITV show alongside Holly Willoughby.

As he held it up to the camera, the sparkly ticket could be seen in a clear and sanitised plastic bag.

Dancing on Ice judge Christopher Dean explained the new twist gives one of the celebrities a free pass to the following week, as they’ll be saved from elimination.

Rufus was visibly emotional when he realised the judges had chosen to give him the ticket

He said: “There is a golden ticket situation for the first two episodes.

“The judges are going to give one celebrity the opportunity to be out of the public vote based on their performance that night.”

At the end of the first episode it was revealed that rapper Lady Leshurr would be in the skate off against another celebrity in week two of the series.

The second instalment of the show will see Myleene Klass, Billie Shepherd, Colin Jackson, Faye Brooks, Sonny Jay and Graham Bell take to the ice.
