Daniel Craig doesn't think James Bond should be played by a woman

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has admitted that he doesn’t think the character should be replaced by a woman as women deserve their own roles designed for them.

Talking in a candid interview with Radio Times, the 53 year-old discussed his new film No Time To Die and the training that was involved into getting in shape for the part.

But before he prepares to hang up his James Bond boots completely, Daniel insisted that the part should go to a male actor next.

Speaking openly, the actor said: “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour.

“Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”, he questioned.

Daniel’s remarks have received praise from several actresses who have supported his stance.

Die Another Day star and Oscar winner Halle Berry also believes the role should go to a male performer and previously expressed her opinion in a television interview.

While appearing on Entertainment Tonight in 2017, the star said: “That series is steeped in history… you know, Ian Fleming’s stories. I don’t think you can change Bond to a woman.”

American film producer Barbara Broccoli who has worked on the Bond films also agreed with Daniel’s sentiment too.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain in 2019, she expressed: “We have to make movies about women and women’s stories but we have to create female characters and not just for a gimmick turn a male character into a woman.”

Several bets have already placed regarding who may replace Daniel’s role.

British actor Idris Elba has been a firm fan favourite for several years, sparking debate about whether there could possibly be a black James Bond in the near future.

But as well as Idris, bookies have reported heavy betting on Wolf Hall and Homeland star Damian Lewis to play the next 007.

Other possible actors that have also been considered for the role are Richard Madden, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy.
