Daniel Craig has revealed that Hugh Jackman is most definitely not his top choice in replacing him as he gets ready for his final outing as James Bond in No Time To Die.
Daniel Craig has portrayed the British super-spy since 2006 when his reign kicked off with Casino Royale.
At the time, Hugh Jackman was the high-ranking prospect for the role but Daniel pipped him to the post.
But as Daniel prepares for his Bond days to end, speculation about who is set to step into the role created by Ian Flemming is rife.
During Tuesday’s edition of Lorraine, a clip was shown of host Lorraine Kelly and Daniel having a cosy chat about the upcoming Bond film.
The Scottish host asked the actor: “You know that everybody is now going ‘who is going to be next?’ Hugh Jackman told you just to ‘enjoy it’.
But Daniel interrupted the presenter to say: “He is not going to be it.”
“Over my dead body,” he said with a smirk.
Getting wind of his name being tossed around again, Hugh took to Twitter to share the clip to revel in the rumours.
Captioning the video, Jackman joked: “Well … That kills that rumour!”
He added, “Daniel, mate, you will always be @007 to me. #notimetodie. I’m IN. @lorrainekellysmith.”
The Greatest Showman actor has often been open about his desire to play Bond, even revealing he was once tapped up as a potential replacement for Pierce Brosnan.
In an interview with British Press Association in 2011, Hugh said: “I got a call from my agent saying, ‘There is some possible interest in you for Bond, are you interested?'”
“At the time I wasn’t. I was about to shoot X-Men 2 and Wolverine had become this thing in my life and I didn’t want to be doing two such iconic characters at once.”
As the rumours begin to circulate over who will be the next spy, Lorraine also took this question to Naomi Harris who plays Miss Moneypenny in the new film.
With Naomi also starring alongside Tom Hardy in Venom, Lorraine hedges her bets that Tom could be a good replacement.
However, Naomi batted this idea down and said she believes it will be someone more “up and coming” and more left-field.
