David Schwimmer confirms much-delayed Friends reunion will film next month

The Friends reunion will start filming imminently, one of its main stars has revealed.

David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller on the 90s hit sitcom, told that the much-awaited reunion special will get filming underway in April.

The project was first announced more than a year ago, with all six of the original cast on board, but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Chatting with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, David shared: “Actually, in a little over a month I’m heading out to LA.

“So, finally, I mean, we figured out a way to film it safely and there’s going to be a portion of it that we filmed outside because of, you know, for safety protocols.”

The star also ruled out rumours of either Ellen DeGeneres or Billy Crystal presenting the show.

“I could tell you who it’s not,” he joked.

The original filming date was set for August 2020 after it was announced in February last year.

The cast have remained largely tight-lipped about what fans can expect, though Phoebe Buffay actress Lisa Kudrow teased “different facets” to the show.

It will be filmed on the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank, California.

And Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has suggested that filming has taken so long to get underway due to the missing “seventh member” of the cast – the live studio audience.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “We all want it to happen. We just have to wait until it is safe.

“This is a show that is not scripted, but this is the way the show works – we are going to need a live audience.

“Even if we socially distance that live audience, it really is a huge part of what Friends is… We can not do it without them.

“Everyone is all in and we are just waiting for that time when it feels connected to bring in a live audience.”

Friends ran for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004, and remains one of television’s best-loved shows.

David, Lisa, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc and Matthew Perry are all returning.
