Demi Lovato has revealed that her experience with drugs “saved her life” after she suffered from suicidal thoughts.
The 28-year-old musician, who suffered a drug overdose in 2018, has been very open about her difficult relationship with substance abuse in the past.
Speaking to Diane Guerrero on her podcast Yeah No, I’m Not OK, Demi recently revealed that while her drug use “almost killed her”, it also “saved her life”.
In a preview of the podcast obtained by E! News, Demi spoke candidly about how her drug use in fact stopped her from taking her own life.
She also added in the interview that it was a common misconception that some think that people who use drugs “want to die”.
Speaking in the podcast, Demi said: “In the same way it almost killed me, it saved my life at times, because there were times that I dealt with suicidal ideations.”

The songstress added: “And had I gone forward with that in that moment, instead of another destructive coping mechanism, I wouldn’t be here to tell my story.”
Since her overdose, Demi revealed that she has been able to seek help and is aware of how to manage without reverting to “destructive” behaviour.
However, the impacts of her 2018 overdose has had long lasting effects.

Just last month, Demi revealed that she had actually suffered three strokes and a heart attack after her near-fatal drug overdose in June 2018.
She was also left with permanent brain damage following the terrifying incident.
The former Disney Channel star has since gone on to speak about her experience in an in-depth YouTube documentary called Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.
In the documentary, Demi did not hold back and tried to give fans an honest reflection of what happened to her – including the lasting results.
Demi is now unable to drive because she still suffers from the effects of the overdose.
She said: “I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today, I don’t drive a car, because I have blind spots on my vision.
