RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney has blasted an “ignorant” critic of the show’s first ever cisgender woman contestant.
The BBC Three series unveiled the official line-up of queens for its third run on Wednesday, which includes Victoria Scone.
The lesbian drag performer will make history as the first cisgender woman to compete on any international edition of the show, leading YouTube star Daniel Pérez to post a video titled Why I don’t support Victoria Scone on RuPaul Drag Race.
Responding to the video a day later, reigning Drag Race UK champ Lawrence clapped back at that particular criticism.
Posting his full reply to the YouTube video on Twitter, the 24-year-old Scot revealed his ‘blood was boiling’ and labelled complaints about Victoria’s participation as “ignorant” as she is also a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
The Bing Bang Bong singer also said he is “so happy” for Victoria and shared his belief that drag is “not exclusive to gay men.”
Lawrence wrote: “Victoria Scone is a cisgender Lesbian woman, she’s literally part of our community!
“She’s been subject to a lot of misogyny in the drag community, women are seen as less than as in so many social situations, so trust me, I’m so happy she is on Drag Race UK.
“It will take her from struggling to get booked for shows because show runners are ignorant idiots like yourself to being in demand and not struggling to pay her bills.”

He added: “In the UK, there are very few lesbians in the public eye and on TV – Vic is going to change the world and show a new audience that they can not only do drag but that they are VALID.
“Drag for me is not female impersonation. It can be, but it’s so much more broader than that. I see drag as a place for me to utlise all the skills I learned growing up and use myself as a canvas…. It is an art form and this art form is NOT exclusive to gay men. “
Lawrence wrapped up the response by encouraging Victoria to showcase her drag talents “unapologetically” on the show.
Competing alongside her this series will be returning queen, Veronica Green.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will return this September to BBC Three and iPlayer
