RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season two winner Lawrence Chaney has fessed up to what it was like to meet “real royalty” during his encounter with Sarah Ferguson.
The successful performer was hosting an awards night in London when Sarah – AKA Fergie – turned up on the red carpet next to her.
Unsure how to act around Sarah, Lawrence admitted to feeling nervous despite the Duchess of York’s warm nature.
Talking about the meet, Lawrence told Daily Star: “The LGBT awards were down in London and I was hosting with Gok Wan and Sarah Ferguson showed up and I was very nervous because didn’t know the royal protocol.”
She also added that she thinks it must have been the first time Fergie had ever met a drag queen in the flesh, as she was so overwhelmed by her presence.
The entertainer added: “She just seemed so enamoured by drag, I think it was one of the first times she’s ever seen a drag queen in the flesh.
“It was all very very fun and she was very very complimentary.”
When asked if she caught up about the Queen’s personal life and all things royal, Lawrence said she was so lucky to nab a juicy chat with the Duchess.
Lawrence continued: “I would love to say we caught up about everything but I was hosting and I had to say hello to everyone who was attending because I didn’t want anyone to be nervous or anything because it was probably hers and everyone else’s at the awards first time out of the house.”
When quizzed on whether she brought a royal plus one with her, or even better, the Queen herself, Lawrence quipped: “She was stood next to a queen, who needs Queen Elizabeth II, when you’ve got Queen Lawrence?”
The champion drag artist has also been working on a new project with tech giant Samsung, which she is very excited about.
Lawrence has launched Samsung KX’s Lawrence Chaney; Unfolded – a series created to give Brits hints and tips on multitasking like a pro.
The series has been created to celebrate the launch of the new Digital DNA Test an experience featuring the new Galaxy Z Flip3 and Z Flip3 phones that gives visitors the chance to identify their multitude of digital personas.
Talking about the new project, she said: “Being a drag queen requires a lot of multitasking. So, if I could do my part with Samsung KX to help people follow in my footsteps and get themselves into multitasking mode, then we’ve done some good.”
