Emmerdale fans were quick to notice that social distancing was still very apparent in the village on Thursday’s episode, as Bernice Blackstock was unable to hug her daughter Gabby.
Bernice has been away from the village for a considerable amount of time.
While she was away, her daughter Gabby has found herself in several dramas and is currently carrying Jamie Tate’s unborn child.
But despite not seeing her firstborn for almost two years, Bernice was unable to give Gabby an affectionate hug due to social distancing rules.
Fans were quick to pick up on this and took to Twitter to air their views.
One fan penned: “That was an underwhelming welcome for mum of the year Bern.”
While another joked: “Give her a hug you’ve not seen her for 2yrs.”
A third said: “The social distancing between mother and daughter is deafening.”
“Why can’t they hug they all must have done a covid test,” another confused fan penned.
Due to the fact that Emmerdale is filmed weeks prior before it is aired, members of cast and crew were still had to adhere to social distancing rules.
Though it often looks weird to viewers, it was essential that cast members continued to do so.
In January, filming was paused on Emmerdale and Coronation Street after a member of the crew contracted coronavirus.
An ITV statement read at the time: “We paused filming on Emmerdale last week due to some members of the team testing positive for Covid 19.
“We’ve carried out proper track and trace measures on those cases and undertook intensive cleaning of the production building, whilst reinforcing the health and safety protocols we have in place.
“We’re returning to filming from this Monday, 25 January. This pause in filming will have no impact on our ability to continue to broadcast six episodes of Emmerdale each week.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm, with an additional episode that airs on Thursday 8pm.
