Emmerdale’s Meena Jutla was up to her usual meddling on Friday’s episode, as she orchestrated Ethan Anderson’s reunion with his estranged mother.
The newcomer showed her sister Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) a phone number written on a cake box, which was revealed to belong to Ethan’s mum.
Meena (Paige Sandhu) then passed the information on to Ethan (Emile John), who tracked Manpreet down and begged her to pass on the number.
While the emotional moment packed a punch, viewers were distracted by the phone number, with each of the digits visible on the screen.
Many wondered whether the number belonged to a real person, fearing they might receive a barrage of prank phone calls from Emmerdale fans.
One Twitter user wrote: “Stand by for cold calling spammers attacking that number.”
“Anyone going to dial that number? #emmerdale,” added a second.
And a third chimed: “Pity the poor sod who has that actual mobile number Meena wrote on cake box! #emmerdale.”
Ethan has been estranged from his mum for the past 20 years but is determined to repair their relationship, as he pleaded his case with Manpreet this evening.
Manpreet, who was previously in a relationship with his dad Charles Anderson, was reluctant to give him the phone number, fearing his mum would push him away.
Ethan assured her his father would never find out, saying: “I swear it will stay between us but I have to call her.”
“How are you going to feel if she doesn’t want to see you or talk to you?” Manpreet wondered, adding: “I don’t want you to get hurt.”

Manpreet eventually gave in and offered him the number, which he promptly called – only to get stuck on his mum’s voicemail.
Hours later, she messaged him back, inviting him to meet up the following day in the village.
