Emmerdale actor Aaron Anthony has reportedly quit the ITV soap after a race probe into Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins.
The Ellis Chapman actor is said to be furious about the behaviour his co-stars – who play David Metcalfe and Victoria Sugden – allegedly displayed towards another female co-star, according to The Sun.
The publication previously reported that Matthew, 41, and Isabel, 28, were accused of mocking a mixed-race actress with an inappropriate comment and impressions of her accent.
Both stars – who have been in the soap for years and involved in some of its biggest storylines – deny any wrongdoing, however they stopped filming while enquiries were made.
According to the paper, Aaron, 28, had an argument with Matthew after the alleged incident.
Sources claimed that he then told soap bosses that he won’t be renewing his contract when it expires.
They claimed: “Aaron is bitterly angry about this situation and he has had to be persuaded to come back to Leeds to film his scenes in recent months.
“He has done some filming over the last couple of weeks, but the understanding is that those scenes will be his last.
“He has been very vocal in his opinions about the allegations and about the way in which the enquiries have been handled by the bosses.
“He now feels his position on the show is untenable.”
An Emmerdale spokesperson had no comment when Daily Star contacted them.
Aaron joined the soap in 2019, replacing the original Ellis actor Asan N’Jie, who was fired after an argument with Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards the same year.
Asan reportedly raged at Jamie: “Do you think you are a f*****g big man? I’m going to f*****g kill you. I’m going to f*****g knife you.”
An ITV spokeswoman said at the time: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.
“ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”
Afterwards, Asan tweeted: “All the people who’ve reached out and had my back you’ll never know how much I appreciate you.
“I’ve learned, I’ve grown and now I’m working harder than ever to finish what I started. Keep you’re circle tight and always fall forward! [sic]”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode Thursdays at 8pm, on ITV
