Emmerdale fans were delighted to see Vanessa appear back in the ITV soap on Wednesday (December 29) for the first time in over a year.
Vanessa, played by Michelle Hardwick, previously left the village for over a year after her bowel cancer battle which saw Charity fight for shared custody of her son Johnny.
At the time, Vanessa had headed up to Scotland to stay with her mum.
But when Vanessa discovered Charity had cheated on her it was all over for the pair, leaving both blonde bombshells devastated by the turn of events.
And with Charity now happily loved up with bad boy Mackenzie Boyd, is there still a future for the pair?
Fans were thrilled to see Vanessa return as Mack confessed his love for Charity – although she didn’t initially return the sentiment.
One fan on Twitter wrote: “So nice to see Vanessa back”
A second said: “Vanessa back and suddenly Emmerdale is watchable for me again”
A third commented: “Welcome back Vanessa!”
A fourth confessed that Vanessa’s return made up for what they felt was a “ridiculous” storyline.
They said: “Yay Vanessa is back! All is forgiven on this ridiculous Meena story…”
A fifth added: “Now that’s a face I’ve missed, welcome back Vanessa. Emmerdales ray of sunshine”.
Charity later had a change of heart and finally admitted to loving Mack back – but with Vanessa revealed to be standing coldly behind her, it was a double-edged sword for the Emmerdale favourite.
In real life, Michelle’s life has thankfully been a lot less turbulent – though no less rewarding – as she took an extended break to welcome her son Teddy to the family with her co-star wife Kate Brooks.
Kate is the producer of Emmerdale, and 14-month-old Teddy was born in October last year, just months after Michelle left the soap in May 2020.
The actress announced on Instagram upon his birth: “On Friday 9th October, this handsome little chap entered the world.
“Edward ‘Teddy’ Peter Brooks we are so in love with you. #OurLittleTeddyBoy.”
Speaking to The Mirror of her Emmerdale return, Michelle said: “In typical Emmerdale style, she walks right into that – what perfect timing.
“But I can’t think of a better scene for Vanessa to return to. I really thought it was fantastic.
“Although she knows Charity has moved on and Vanessa also has a new girlfriend, seeing her and Mackenzie as soon as she returns to the village is a bit much. There will be scenes with Vanessa and Charity where they bump into each other and which will be fun for the viewers to watch.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
