Adele broke down in tears during the celebrity Q&A during her exclusive televised performance, which led to comedian and friend Alan Carr having to step in.
While singing a set of songs during her An Audience With programme for ITV, Adele broke down in tears when she was surprised by an old face that she hadn’t seen in years.
The special programme was recorded at the London Palladium earlier this month on November 6, when the 33-year-old award-winning singer cried tears of joy when she was reunited with an old school teacher.
Adele got emotional when she was surprised with a teacher who taught her at Chestnut Grove School in Balham.
When Hollywood film star Emma Thompson asked the superstar who had inspired her when she was young, Adele spoke of her year eight teacher, Miss McDonald, who had a massive impact on her.
She said that she was “so bloody cool” and that she really cared about her pupils.
After gushing about her former teacher, Emma then revealed that the teacher she was speaking about was actually in the audience.
Adele was shocked when the teacher walked down the aisle and onto the stage.
“I’m so proud of you,” Miss McDonald said, as Adele wiped tears from her eyes.
The stunning singer was so emotional that friend and comedian Alan Carr had to step in while Adele exited the stage to wipe her eyes and gain composure.
Alan burst out into song when Adele left the stage, while the audience roared with laughter and people watching at home were in hysterics.
An audience member told The Sun: ‘It was a really emotional moment. Adele spoke movingly about how her teacher was her inspiration as a teenager.
“When she realised she was actually in the audience, she brought her up on stage immediately, and broke down in tears. It was the big surprise of the night.”
This comes as Adele was forced to insist that she “isn’t a diva” after demanding a different cup of tea while performing live onstage.
At the start of the ITV special, the singer was speaking to the audience and then took a sip from a cup, before exclaiming “can I get a hot honey? That’s a camomile!”
She quickly insisted: “I’m not a diva.”
