Extreme Food Phobics star turns life around after living off energy drinks and sweets

A mother of three who featured on Extreme Food Phobics has confessed that she exists solely on sweets, crisps and fizzy energy drinks and even munches on sugary snacks in the middle of the night without realising it.

Rebekah, 29, also said she has a major fear of meat and vegetables and has not eaten either since she was a child.

Her phobia of normal food is so severe Rebekah shared that she cannot eat in restaurants or go on dates and that her children are now starting to see that there is something very wrong with her relationship with food.

Extreme Food Phobics host Dr Ranj Singh told her that if she doesn’t change he eating habits all the sugar could cause damage to her teeth, brain and liver.

She said on the show: “I have a really bad relationship with food and I don’t go out for food with friends.

“Dating is really hard because I don’t go to restaurants and it’s starting to rub off on my children, so I have to buck up my ideas and do better.

“I will cook meals for the kids and stand next to them just snacking. Just because I never crave anything or fancy anything, unless it is sweets or puddings.”

Rebekah’s mysterious midnight eating apparently started after she had her children, she said, and she was completely unaware of the habit until she started waking up with crisps and chocolate all over her face.

She went on: “Sometimes I’ve left the fridge open and there are wrappers all over fridge or things are missing. I think it’s because I’m not eating enough during the day.”

Rebekah said that on a normal day she would start with an energy drink then just graze on crisps and sweets before having a cheese sandwich and more crisps and chocolate for dinner.

She told Dr Ranj: “I need to do something about it now because obviously my children are starting to notice and I don’t want them to go down the same route I am, where they’re scared of certain foods and trying things,’ said the mother.

“I want them to grow up healthy. It would be so much better if I could eat variety of things.”

After Dr Ranj told Rebekah that all the sugar is contributing to her feeling low, she admitted that she felt “really lonely” because she couldn’t do normal activities like eating out with her friends.

The celebrity medic’s solution was to try aversion therapy and Rebekah had to try and be in a room full of burgers and raw meat.

The mum, who said that meat was her “worst nightmare”, was able to hold one of the burgers in the aversion room, but said it made her feel “hot, sweaty, sticky and sick” and like she was “holding a dead animal”.

Rebekah added: “It just looks like a bloody animal which freaks me out, it just looks disgusting.

“It’s making me realise how bad it is, it’s making me feel awful, really queasy, sweating a lot.”

After undergoing hypnosis Rebekah was also able to tackle some grapes and even a small piece of salami before her final challenge of green beans, carrot and steak.

Four weeks on, Rebekah was filmed eating an apple with her daughter as she triumphantly insisted: ‘It’s absolutely crazy how much it’s changed.

“I’ve noticed the children are eating more. I’m sat with them eating the same thing. It is amazing to just eat with my children, to eat with them all the time is just great.”
