Girls Aloud reunited last summer, quietly coming together as a group after learning of Sarah Harding’s cancer diagnosis.
The singer, 39, announced she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, with the disease spreading to other parts of her body, and another tumour emerging at the base of her spine.
Relaying the doctor’s devastating diagnosis, Sarah recently revealed she has months left to live, with her Girls Aloud bandmates rallying around her in a show of support.
Having split in 2013, the girl band came together again for one night last year, travelling to Oxfordshire’s Soho Farmhouse for a low-key reunion.
There, Cheryl, 37, Kimberly Walsh, 39, Nicola Roberts, A35, and Nadine Coyle, 35, reminisced over their early years in the spotlight, when they toured the globe as a pioneering voice in pop.
In her new autobiography, Hear Me Out, Sarah recalled their trip together, admitting she was nervous about her appearance before meeting her old friends again.
“The steroids I’d been taking made me look bloated, and I’d lost my eyelashes due to the chemo,” she said.
“It’s not that I thought they wouldn’t understand or be judgmental, of course; it’s just that when we were together as a group, part of our thing was the glamour.
“As a band, we all had our own styles and looks, but there was a sexiness and glamorousness about Girls Aloud that I just wasn’t able to rise to then.”
In the rural member’s club, which features cosy cabins and studio bedrooms, the former bandmates watched their 2006 series Girls Aloud: Off The Record.
Produced by E4 in a documentary style, the show followed the group in the buildup to their Chemistry arena tour, travelling from Ibiza to Greece before promoting their music in China.
Reflecting on the six-part series, Sarah said: “We were all so different then. There was a sort of sweet naivety about us.
“Watching Off the Record provoked lots of laughing and even more cringing, but I have to say, I looked on fondly. ‘You only miss this when it’s gone,’ I told the girls.”
Cheryl also penned a piece for Sarah’s autobiography, admitting the singers had been doubled over in laughter when they watched the noughties footage back.
She wrote: “When we all got together at Soho Farmhouse, there were no tears. Actually, that’s not entirely true; there were tears, but they were from laughter rather than sadness.
“It was a lovely trip away for us all, and Sarah was at her best. She’s always been funny and sharp-witted, but somehow, in all this, she’s even funnier. God knows how!”

Since their 2002 inception, Girls Aloud earned 20 consecutive top ten singles in the UK and recorded a platinum studio album.
Their song The Promise, which soared to the top of the charts in 2008, earned the group a Brit Award.
