Richard Madeley has managed to rub up Good Morning Britain viewers the wrong way during a “cringe” interview with Queen’s Adam Lambert.
The 65-year-old journalist was back on our screens on Tuesday to present the latest edition of the ITV breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid.
Singer Adam, 39, appeared on the programme to promote his upcoming Vegas show with Queen.
However, viewers watching at home were left baffled by Richard’s list of questions for the pop sensation.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Nice interview as Richard Madeley just talks about himself.”
Another added: “Please tell Richard Madeley to let guests speak instead of us having to watch him go on and on and on! Trying to listen to what Adam Lambert had to say but no, Dick just wouldn’t shut up!”
A third person posted: “Strange question of the day – Richard Madeley to Adam Lambert on GMB ‘Adam I love your eye liner, who does it?’…. Bizarre! Cringeworthy!
While a fourth social media user said: “Is Richard Madeley trying to outdo Alan Partridge? #Cringe”
Former This Morning host Richard and Susana, 50, chatted to Adam via a video link about his upcoming live show.
Conversation quickly turned to Adam’s makeup as Richard wondered how the American Idol winner had managed to get his eyeshadow looking so good.
The “cringe” interview came less than 24 hours after Richard appeared to to confirm he’s set to take part in the latest series of I’m A Celebrity.
Andi Peters had been promoting ITV’s million pound competition as he held a cup and saucer and said: “With that kind of money, you could be drinking flat whites out of gold-encrusted cups and saucers. Oh, you won’t get this in the jungle, Richard!”
“Listen mate, I’d kill for a coffee right now,” Richard admitted. “I’ve got to go for a routine medical about midday today where you’ve got to fast for 12 hours, so I’m not even allowed tea and doing this show without caffeine!”
At that, Susanna had raised her eyebrows as she asked pointedly: “Why are you going for a routine medical?”
“Oh, because I’m very old, Susanna,” Richard smiled. “For insurance!”
Unconvinced, Susanna replied: “Oh… right. Hmm.”
“You going to make everything into everything,” he laughed.
Richard had earlier refused to rule out his appearance on the gruelling ITV reality show, after it was rumoured that he had signed a “£200k deal” to join the line-up.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
