Dr Amir Khan has opened up about the horrific death threats he’s received from evil online trolls.
The Bradford-based GP, a familiar face on ITV daytime programmes including Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, says he’s been bombarded with abusive direct messages over the past 18 months.
He believes he has been a subject of this abusive for his stance on being pro-Covid vaccines.
“I’ve had so much trolling and online abuse,” he told Daily Star.
“Some really personal attacks. Just the other day someone sent me a DM on Instagram telling me that they’re going to ‘kill me’ or ‘it won’t be safe to leave my house’.
“I have reported all this stuff to the police.”
Dr Amir added that he’s been the subject of hateful online messages since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.
He explained: “Early on, I took it really personally. I was having sleepless nights and couldn’t think of anything else.
“I’d be out for food with my friends and I couldn’t think of anything other than these awful message I’d been getting.
“Most of these people are victims of misinformation. The’ve gone down a rabbit hole and got involved with this community of people who are really not informed.
“However, when they get very personal that’s when it’s gone to a step too far.”
“Everybody has the choice to get the vaccine or not. If you don’t take it, that’s your choice. Don’t threaten me with violence or death because I think different to you.”
The medical expert, who has been working for the NHS for 17 years, has recently celebrated the release of the paperback edition of his book, The Doctor Will See You Now.
Charting his career from rookie to becoming a partner in one of the UK’s busiest surgeries, Dr Amir shares the shocking, funny, heartbreakingly sad stories of life as an NHS doctor.
The book is a rare and timely fly-on-the-wall account of the GP’s crucial role in returning us to a healthy, stable society post-pandemic.
“I thought i’d finished the book but then the pandemic hit and I thought General Practice has completely changed in a short period of time so I’ve got to write about it,” Dr Amir said.
“It was very different writing the new chapter for the paperback edition because the first three quarters of the book is me remembering things over my 17-year career as an NHS doctor.”
Dr Amir admitted that he didn’t jump at the chance to write the book straight away due to his busy work schedule.
He said: “I needed some persuasion. I had a number of people approaching me to write a book and first of all I’m really busy being a GP and secondly I’m not a writer.
“Eventually somebody did contact me a number of times and persuaded me to write a short story about a memorable encounter with a patient and then over a number of calls and conversations I had four or five chapters for a book.
“I just feel incredibly lucky, blessed and happy because all the stuff I’m doing. I can’t believe is happening.”
