Gogglebox Mary Killen's fake modelling snap resurfaces after sparking meltdown

A fake image of the Gogglebox star Mary Killen has gone viral.

And that has led to the British etiquette expert being forced to put the record straight.

A raunchy black and white image of an attractive model with no bra on was posted on Facebook accompanied by the caption: “Mary was a sort!!”

The model in the photo, taken in 1975, shows off her curvy figure in a figure-hugging rollneck jumper, mini-skirt and long leather boots.

She is seen pouting proactively at the camera whilst leaning on a lamppost.

A clearly distracted bespectacled gentleman in the background gazes at the mode – and the post attracted 3.4k comments and 2.4k shares.

The image first went viral in January last year.

Despite there being a striking resemblance to Mary, who is now somewhat older than in the photo, a Gogglebox spokesperson previously addressed the picture and revealed the truth.

“We have checked with Mary and although hugely flattered, it’s not her,” said the spokesperson.

“It is a model called Susan Shaw.”

Miss Shaw was a successful glamour model, but sadly died earlier this year.

The couple have been participants in the hit ITV shows since 2015 and fans often get plenty of laughs from their constant squabbling.

Mary is well-known for her witty banter and her baffling husband also has dry sense of humour, making them popular with fans of the shows.

But Mary recently revealed that the coronavirus pandemic lockdown had put a strain on their marriage.

The Gogglebox favourite has admitted arguments between her and Giles had “remained steady over all the lockdown.”

The couple, who have affectionately nicknamed each other “nutty”, have become stars since bursting on to our TV screen six years ago.

Mary is popular with Gogglebox fans (Image: (Channel 4 images must not be altered or manipulated in any way) This picture may be used solely for Channel 4 programme publicity purposes in connection with the current broadcast of the programme(s) featured in the national and local press and listings. But Mary revealed in her column for The Telegraph: “The arguing has remained steady over all the lockdown, however.

“Giles is not allowed to knock on the kitchen ceiling (the bathroom is above it) to ask what I am doing in there but he still does.

“He is not permitted to shout from whatever room he is in instead of coming to the room we are in to ask for what he wants, eg, ‘Where is the coffee?’, meaning I have to shout back ‘In the place where it’s kept’, but he refuses to comply.

“And the shouting ratchets up the incivility-ometer and makes everyone tetchy.”

Mary has written two books about the Queen and regularly writes for political publication The Spectator.
