Happy Mondays star Bez believes sugar is the gateway into hard drugs.
The 90s pop dancer says sweet treats are ultimately to blame for a lot of the world’s illegal substance addictions.
Bez, 56, said: “What I’ve found is if I stop it completely – I get headaches. So I get my sugar hits. And people say the gateway to drugs is cannabis and all that, well I actually think it’s sugar.
“When I was a kid I would do anything for sweets.
“I definitely think sugar is probably the gateway for everybody as a young kid into addictive behaviour. I have to eat a whole packet if I open a packet of sweets or a packet of biscuits – I even eat full cakes.

“My missus says to me: ‘I can’t believe you’ve eaten that full cake already!’”
Bez, real name Mark Berry, has been open about taking drugs in his wild past as a pop star. Now he is on a health kick after launching Get Buzzin’ With Bez on YouTube.
He said: “I’ve not got the sugar habit under control yet but it’s nearly there.

“I’ve been eating a lot less and I’ve lost a few pounds already.”
Back in 2017, Bez told The Guardian that he hadn’t given up drugs completely.
He said: “I’ve not actually stopped taking drugs, but only if they’re organic will they get into my system now.”
Last year, he and pal Shaun Ryder were in everyone’s front rooms as they joined Celebrity Gogglebox.
The musical duo showed off a very different side to their lives, as they discussed much more family friendly topics.
In one segment, Shaun proudly told Bez that he was about to adopt some hens that had been kept on a battery farm.
But viewers were left in hysterics when he referred to them as “battery-operated rescue chickens” in the hilarious clip.
