Harry's book should be left until Charles is 'no longer around'

Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter has said Prince Harry should wait until his father Prince Charles is “no longer around” to release his upcoming memoir.

The ITV panel show was discussing the topic of Prince Harry writing an autobiography in time with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.

Speaking on Loose Women, Janet, 74, told her co-stars: “A better time might be when his father’s no longer around.”

Janet then went on to discuss her own personal experiences of writing a memoir, and said: “Speaking from my own experience, I wrote a memoir about my mother and why we didn’t get on and I waited until my mum and dad were dead and even then, there were people in my family that didn’t like what I wrote.”

Janet Street-Porter did not hold back with her opinions

However, the journalist, suggested that it would be “cathartic” for Prince Harry to do.

She continued: “I wrote about my mother and I found it cathartic. I really enjoyed the process so Harry will benefit from writing everything down.

“He can’t stop telling us his feelings at the moment so this is going to be another encyclopaedia of how he feels.”

Janet’s Loose Women co-stars agreed with some of the points the journalist was making.

Coleen Nolan admitted that it wouldn’t be great timing to read Harry’s book with all that’s going on in the world.

Coleen Nolan thought the book was not great timing

She said: “If I was a friend or a relative, I’ve got to be honest, I’d say, ‘not now Harry, not now. Wait.’

“I think it’s too soon with everything else that’s gone on.

Coleen then went on to discuss the book from the Queen’s point of view, she continued: “I definitely don’t think he should be thinking about things with his grandmother, our Queen, being the age she is and being hurt by so many things recently being said and done.”

However, the Loose Women panellist admitted she would still be reading the book, and added: “I just think he is going to open a massive can of worms that he may not ever be able to be fixed. But I will buy it.”

Meanwhile, co-panellist Brenda Edwards suggested that by agreeing to do the book a can of worms was already open and it was up to him how the story would be told.

It was announced earlier this week that Prince Harry has been working on a memoir that will be realised next year.

The Loose Women panel discussed the Prince’s upcoming memoir

The autobiography will be ghostwritten by J.R Moehringer where it will detail Prince Harry’s life as a member of the Royal Family and his relationship with his wife Meghan Markle.

Discussing the upcoming project, Prince Harry, 36, said: “I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”

He added: “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

Loose Women continues weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV
