Peaky Blinders and Harry Potter actress Helen McCrory OBE sadly passed away on Friday after her ongoing battle with cancer at the age of 52.
The star rose to acclaim for her roles as Polly Gray in BBC’s crime drama Peaky Blinders and for starring in three Harry Potter film’s as Narcissa Malfoy.
McCrory had a “heroic battle” with cancer and died at her home surrounded by close friends and family.
On March 12, Helen made her last television appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain alongside her husband Damian Lewis to discuss the Prince’s Trust Awards, a charity in which both Damien and Helen were ambassadors.
Helen and Damian showed their passion for the charity while talking via video link to GMB presenter’s Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway.
At the time of the interview, Kate asked Helen: “Are you alright Helen, you sound a bit croaky. Do you have a sore throat?”
Helen quickly responded: “No, I’ve got children!”
As well as her charitable work with the Prince’s Trust, Helen and Damian raised more than £1million for Feed NHS at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday, husband Damian broke the sad news of his wife’s death to fans on Twitter.
The Homeland actor wrote: “I’m heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from family and friends.
“She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and we know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives.”
Damian added: “She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.”
According to the Daily Mail, Helen and Damian met each other in 2003 while they were both performing in Five Gold Rings at London’s Almeida Theatre.
Speaking about what attracted her to Damian, Helen told Radio Times: “He just made me laugh a lot. And still does.
“Of course, everyone in life wants someone to love and be loved by, but I think I was always just engrossed and involved in work. And no, the timing was pure fluke, pure chance, it always is, isn’t it?”
The couple later married in 2007 at a registry office located in Kensington and Chelsea, London.
According to reports at the time, Helen said of their nuptials: “I did have a honeymoon. It lasted an evening. It was very short, but very lovely.
“We got married in the Kensington and Chelsea registry office, then walked down the King’s Road and had lunch in a nice restaurant around the corner with 11 people. A very romantic day.”
The pair share two children together, Manon McCrory-Lewis and Gulliver Lewis.
