Hugh Grant says his son 'stabbed himself with pen' after homeschooling struggles

While most of the nation is dealing with the woes of homeschooling, it appears the stress also applies to some of the biggest movie stars.

Actor Hugh Grant has revealed that his son “stabbed himself” right in front of his teacher as he struggled with a mathematics question.

The Love Actually star, 60, is currently in Turkey filming and made the decision to take his family with him so that they could remain together while the UK faces its third lockdown period.

Chatting to actress Drew Barrymore during a SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations at Home interview, Hugh spoke frankly of the “ghastly” goings-on of home education.

“I’ve rented two teenagers to come and home school them, poor things, they don’t know what’s hit them, ghastly.

“My son self-harmed himself in front of this young tutor today because he couldn’t do a basic bit of arithmetic – so he stabbed himself in the face with a Biro [pen].”

While his sons may not be adjusting to living and learning at home, Hugh went on to say that the family are enjoying the more tropical climates while the UK suffers freezing temperatures.

He said: “The sun is shining and I haven’t seen the sun for months.

“That’s why I’m so red in the face in this Zoom , I keep adjusting the light thinking, ‘What’s happened to me?’

“I’m here about to shoot a film. I bought my family to get them out of London lockdown and I’ve been wallowing around in a pool with a three-year-old all day.”

About A Boy star Hugh is a father-of-five, sharing three with his wife Anna Eberstein, as well as two with ex-partner Tinglan Hong.

The actor recently broke the hearts of The Undoing fans as he revealed he doesn’t think the show can continue past its current mini-series.

“I don’t see how that could be done, I honestly don’t, if I’m in prison, I’m guilty.

“It would have to be a spinoff series about my time in prison and how I befriend Phoenix Buchanan from Paddington 2,” he told Deadline.

In the show, Hugh played Jonathan, a doctor who attempts to maintain his innocence after his lover, Elena was found dead. It was later confirmed that it was Jonathan who had killed Elena.
